Jewelers since 1839

Barcelona, Spain

From the end of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century, Masriera was considered to be one of the most emblematic representatives of the creative splendour of that time. His work is known all over the globe, and is considered an essential part of the creative outburst that flourished at that time, which was centred in cities such as Paris, Vienna and Barcelona.

The original designs of Masriera, meticulously worked on and preserved in his specially-designed sketch books, are re-edited selectively and carefully by Masriera, and are internationally famous and appreciated by all those who are interested in the aesthetic and artistic dimension of jewelry.

Faithfully responding to the aesthetic concerns of the time, the style which Masriera launched to worldwide acclaim and prestige was based very largely on a fascination for nature, Flowers, plants, insects, birds and other natural motifs became fantastical emblems, and their ethereal matter acquired the brilliance and luminosity of precious stones and fine metals.

The enamel used by Bagues-Masriera in the plique a jour and basse taille techniques was introduced into Spain by Liuis Masriera at the end of the 19th century. His research and studies led him to perfect these techniques up to the point of being able to add new perspectives to enamel, coining the term that has become camous all over the world which is "Barcelona enamel", characterized by its great luminosity, colour and relief.
